ITEMS OF LOCAL INTEREST

We received a pamphlet copy of the constitution with the compliments of Hon. John A. SHOUDY. Many thanks. Fred ZIEBER left Ellensburgh for his camp near the Moses Coulee on Sunday. He received supplies of provision for his camp in the field. The CREGER block on the corner of Third and Water streets has all the brickwork done and will soon be ready for occupancy. It contains
fine business rooms and is one story. A small detachment of troops from Vancouver passed through Ellensburgh last week on a reconnoitering tour. Two six mule teams accompanied the squad. They have gone, we learned, to the Chelan country. A sick young woman was brought down from Roslyn on the train last Sunday. It was difficult to procure a place for her. The good Samaritan at the Gem restaurant gave her quarters. Her name we did not learn. Several car loads of sheep were shipped from the Ellensburgh stock yards to the sound on Wednesday. Butchers in the sound cities must be doing a good business, judging from the number of stock shipped there lately. A. R. SCHNEBLY and son Daniel SCHNEBLY and Miss Lillie SCHNEBLY left for their homes in Pennsylvania and Maryland on Monday, via St. Paul. The former have spent some time visiting places of interest in California and Washington.

Died, September 17th, Jennie GRIMM, daughter of Wm. GRIMM of the Nanum precinct. This is the second daughter that has been carried off by that fell destroyer, typhoid fever. The deceased was 21 years of age, and a few months ago was the very picture of health. Surely death is no respecter of persons, but ofttimes picks out a shining mark. J. A. GAVITT of Waitsburg, arrived here last week, and likes Ellensburgh so well that he intends to pitch his tent with us. He thinks Ellensburgh is a bustling place. We learn that he has a firm making his celebrated harness buckle, upon which he has a patent, in Portland. They are making them in quantity and can supply any demand for them. Miss Annie BROWN has accepted a position as saleslady in Geo. B. HENTON & Co. dry goods store on Water Street.

Services of the Episcopal church are being held in the hall of the Knights of Pythias on Sunday next at 10:30 a.m. and on Sunday mornings at the same hour and place until further notice. Rev. R. D. NEVIUS

W. J. BOYD has established a newsstand on Pine street, one door south of HOBDY's grocery. He keeps stationery, pens, periodicals and newspapers. The advertisement of Herman KAMINSKY appears in today's paper. A visit to his well appointed store on the corner of Main and Fifth Streets... His store is the corner room of NASH's brick block... C. B. GRAVES left on Monday for Yakima, and from there he will visit Golddale before he returns. REHMKE Brothers have commenced their brick on Fourth street and will rush it up inside of three weeks.

Miss Anna MURRAY, niece of David MURRAY of Ellensburgh, arrived on Monday's train from Burham, Maine. C. A. BUSHNELL, photographer, and John DIRKS, cigar maker, both of this city, are on a visit to the Sound this week. W. SHERWOOD has substituted at $350 truck for the dray he used to drive. It is designed for either one or two horses, but one is used at present.

The Congregational chapel will be dedicated Nov. 3rd. Rev. R. A. BEARD and Rev. George A. TEWKSBURY will be the preachers on the occasion. At the residence of the bride, September 11th, by Rev. J. RAHMAAN, Mr. J. W. HOGAN of this city and Miss Lulu HAAS of Spokane Falls. The happy pair have our best wishes for a long and happy life.

We have received a letter inquiring of the whereabouts of J. A. CATTONACH, a brick layer or mason! Do you know of him? If so, tell him to call at this office and learn a bit of news that will interest him. --Editor O. B. CASTLE is rushing up his brick building on Main street north of the corner ... Mr. RICE received 110 head of beef steers from Lincoln county. They are for his market on the Sound... Miss Elizabeth BLANCHARD arrived last week from Florida and took charge or a private school at the SCHNEBLY dwelling. The school opened on Wednesday with 13 pupils, all of whom belong to the SCHNEBLY families.

The young girl who was brought to this city from Cle-elum last week, for medical treatment, died Thursday morning. The mother, a widow, is almost crazed with grief at the loss of her only child. The girl's name was Carrie RYAN. J. W. TURNER shipped a sweet potato to the Seattle P-I that weighed a little over nine pounds ... Who will come next with a report of mammoth vegetables. John H. THOMPSON, we learn, has bought the LUMSDEN ranch, together with the stock, near the Oknogan river. Mr. PHELPS says
the Oknogan country about the mines is exceedingly dry... Ed PHELPS came down from the Okanogan mines a few days ago...

G. W. SEATON it is reported, has made an important quartz discovery at the head of Williams creek. The large nuggets that have been found at various times on the Swauk afford pretty positive proof that a valuable quartz lode exists somewhere in close proximity...
