MINERS and prospectors who have not already done so, should at once commence the assessment work on their claims to comply with the U. S. mining laws. Only a few weeks more remain in which to do the work. It is ???list to put off this necessary duty until the last minute and perhaps jeopardize important interests. If work on the claims is not commenced on or before January the 1st, 1889, they are liable to forfeiture and relocation.

CLE ELUM ITEMS

The people of Cle Elum expect lively times within the next two years and are putting everything in order for the rush. There has been a good deal of development work done on iron mines in this vicinity this fall, and they are showing up immense bodies of ore. There has been some building activity here this season, the principal buildings being the large store of Thos. JOHNSON and the new brick of Walter REED's. The latter is the first brick building constructed in the place. The brick, which was made here, is of excellent
quality. Squire GAMBLE's addition to Cle Elum will build up during the next two years. The Squire is determined to give every man who will improve his property a fair chance. Lots can be had in this valuable addition for $125...

Samuel MILLER of Wenatchee is in the city. Dr. BEAN expects his sister, Emma, from Eugene, Oregon, this week. Louis QUEITSCH and David LIVINGSTONE of Swauk are purchasing their winter supplies. Chas. POND and wife of Priest's Rapids, are visiting friends and acquaintences in this city. Thos. I. NIXON came over on Sunday from the City of Destiny, and returned Monday morning. Mr. W. G. PORTER of Salt Lake is in the city with a view to taking up his residence here...
